Latest Update!

Project now completed, see Research Project section for research outputs.

More detailed information of acid tars available in Acid Tars section.

Final updates to follow!

This website has been set up as part of a UK EPSRC funded research project 'Restoration of acid tar and acid tar lagoons', to provide a focus for research and information on acid tar lagoons. There is a very little information on acid tars in the public domain. This site aims to partially redress that balance. Specifically it aims to:

a) encourage communication and information exchange between researchers and practitioners involved in the investigation and restoration of acid tar lagoons.

b) provide an up to date information resource including a comprehensive bibliography.

Please browse through the resources on the site. It will be regularly updated and augmented as the project proceeds. We are actively working with a number of UK acid tar lagoon sites, but are keen to extend our knowledge base. We welcome contact with anyone working on acid tars or acid tar lagoons.

The project is officially completed in December 2006 in University of Manchester (socio-economic research) and in July 2007 in University of Sheffield (scientific research). The major content of scientific research is summarized in Acid Tars and Restoration sections.
